Jay and Sarah bought the farm in March of 2015. Along with our daughter, Sierrah, we had plans for chickens and turkeys. Grandpa Scott moved down to help and became the property manager. Our first turkey, Pip, was born in May of 2015. Chickens were soon to follow. Scott built the coops and Sierrah loved the baby chicks. Our first eggs came on October 13, 2015.
Our goal for the farm is naturally raised, free-range chickens and turkeys, with fresh eggs every day. We planted a large garden and have had success with potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, and squash. Our garden is free of chemicals and we plant seeds that have not been genetically modified.
Jay, Sarah, and Sierrah live in Madison, WI and spend many evenings and weekends at the farm. During the summer, it is a wonderful get away and amazing place for Sierrah to see for herself where our food is coming from.
Grandpa Scott runs the farm on a day-to-day basis. He is the builder of the coops and keeps everything running.
Max lives at the farm with Scott. He is a Rottweiler and Lab mix, and the protector of chickens and turkeys. Every day he scares away predators that threaten our flocks.
We currently have 5 breeds, including Dorking, Ancona, Black Australorp, Araucana, and Gold Star, with a variety in egg color. Our goal is to maintain heritage breeds as recommended by the Livestock Conservancy. Currently, all except one of our breeds are a heritage breed.
Our turkeys are purchased in the Spring and kept on pasture until November. We currently only maintain a flock of 20 turkeys, so the number of birds we have available for Thanksgiving is limited. Pre-ordering for fresh, pastured, Thanksgiving turkeys is highly recommended. This year all of our turkeys sold within the first week of sales.
Eggs are available year-round on demand until sold out at $4 per dozen.
Thanksgiving turkeys are available during the holiday season.
